THE MAINE TRAIL: EAGLE ISLAND
Discover the history that surrounds us in the waters of Casco Bay! We’ll explore the beauty of Casco Bay aboard the Pamela B. as we venture out to Eagle Island, a Maine State Park, a National Historic Landmark and the former summer home of Admiral Robert E. Peary. Admiral Peary was an explorer and United States Navy officer who made several expeditions to the Arctic in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and claimed to have reached the geographic North Pole in 1909. We’ll learn about the life and work of Admiral Peary and the history of the island with a guided tour, and explore the ledges and beaches that surround us. After working up an appetite, let’s enjoy a local lunch on our cruise back to Freeport! Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the history and beauty of our backyard in Casco Bay! This trip is designed for active individuals who are comfortable walking across uneven terrain, including docks. Please bring extra layers for changing weather, comfortable walking shoes, rain gear (if necessary), sunscreen, water & snacks, motion sickness medication (if desired), and a sense of adventure! We will meet at Coffee by Design in Freeport and be transported to the marina in South Freeport by Seacoast Tours. Lunch is included in cost. No refunds will be issued within 2 weeks of the trip date.
