Pownal Youth Soccer (PYS) is entering its 13th season and this will be yet another great opportunity to carry on a tradition held for many years. PYS is designed for Pownal Elementary students Grades 2-5 to learn the game of soccer and develop the overall skills to enhance their enjoyment of the game. Participants will play games on Sunday afternoons (4 p.m. - 5 p.m.) and participate in team practices during the week on Tuesdays (5 p.m. - 6 p.m.). This is a developmental program where the responsibility of the program is to foster within the children an atmosphere of good sportsmanship, having fun, and learning about the game of soccer.
Both practices and games will take place on the fields to the right of Pownal Elementary. Each practice students will warm up, stretch, receive instruction, work on skills and play scrimmages in a supportive, team like setting. Each game day students will warm up, stretch and be broken into even, co-ed teams to face off in an organized game. This format will take place for five weeks over a six week period with a week off in between.
Students will need to bring a mask, water bottle and weather appropriate athletic clothing. Students are also encouraged to wear cleats and even soccer shin pads if available, however these are in no way a requirement. The first week Mr. T will have many pairs of lent cleats that students are more than welcome to borrow for the season. Additionally, please make sure that students understand we will be following the same distanced learning requirements as in school.
Very much looking forward to seeing you all out on the field!
