Grade 3-6 Rec Basketball
Through practice, clinics, and games, this local league provides and promotes a safe, recreational basketball program for youth in grades 3 – 6 throughout RSU5. Focus is on good sportsmanship, developing strong playing skills, and promoting friendly relationships among the players, coaches, referees, and parents. Our main objective is to promote sportsmanship, integrity, and fairness while giving athletes the opportunity to have fun and find their own success.
Teams will practice once during the week in the evening, and have a Saturday morning/early afternoon game. Games will be held in Durham, Freeport, Yarmouth and Brunswick. NEW this year, we will work with coaches to offer an open-gym style practice for each division (all players in the division will be welcome to attend, provided we have enough adult supervision). Stay tuned for more details on that.
When you register, you will be asked where you would prefer to practice. You may choose either Durham/Pownal or Freeport, and we will do all that we can to place your child on a team that practices in that town. All 3rd/4th grade games will take place at Durham Community School or in Yarmouth, and all 5th/6th grade games will take place at Freeport Middle School or in Brunswick. Practices begin as soon as November 16th, with games likely beginning on December 5th.
Sign up by November 2 to be guaranteed a spot on a team. After that date, players will be added to the waiting list and a CP staff member will reach out regarding team placement.
Once teams are finalized, a coach will contact you with practice details. If you have a specific day or time that you CANNOT practice, please indicate this when signing up. In an effort to create balanced teams, we cannot accommodate all specific team/coach requests.
Parent coaches and assistants are needed in order to run this program.

Mud Season Madness (Grades 2-4)
This is an optional program open to any 2nd, 3rd or 4th grader who wishes to extend their season. This program is not open to players that did not play basketball in the winter leading up to the program.
Mud Season Madness is designed to provide players with additional gym time to develop and compete. Players will be grouped by age and/or ability to ensure an appropriate learning environment. For 2nd graders, the focus will be on introducing game-like situations and preparing them for games as they enter 3rd grade the following year (bridging the gap between Little Hoopsters and the Rec season). For 3rd/4th graders, there will be an opportunity for teams to participate in tournaments. Anyone interested in competing in a tournament will be able to do so, however please be aware that playing time will not be equal (each player will still be guaranteed playing time).
