Community Programs Mission Statement

MISSION STATEMENT
RSU5 Community Programs is dedicated to developing and maintaining a balanced program for all segments of the community in the areas of education, recreation, and cultural and civic affairs, based on the identified needs of the community.

WHAT WE DO
Operating under the umbrella of Maine Regional School Unit No. 5, Community Programs has been providing educational and recreational opportunities for youth and adults in the Freeport area since its inception as Freeport Community Education in 1982. In addition to offering youth sports, camps, leagues, and enrichment activities, CP operates a licensed, education-focused preschool as well as a before and after school child care program known as Laugh & Learn. The PORT Teen Center, located at the Freeport Community Center, provides a place where teens can socialize in a fun, collaborative, safe environment as well as offering opportunities to expand their intellectual, emotional, and physical lives. For adults, CP offers a wide range of recreational and lifelong learning opportunities, including Adult Basic Education (ABE) in the areas of Hi-Set equivalency preparation and testing, College Transitions support, Programs for New Mainers, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), and a variety of enrichment and vocational programs.
